Lottery tickets. Isn’t it amazing that everyone wins all the time?

This “Christmas love story” scores by gently fusing classic romantic themes with, well, greed. Who doesn’t want to find true love? Who doesn’t want to win the lottery? The concept clicks, backed up by excellent narration from director Tom Hooper. It uses a light touch and understated realism to create emotional engagement and deliver, quite literally, a satisfying payoff. (Hey, young lovers, you can buy this train!)

The King’s Speech, which won Hooper the Best Director Oscar, received funding for a good cause from the lottery through the British Film Institute. “The National Lottery is a unifying force for good in the UK, with players raising more than £30 million each week for good causes,” said Matt Ridsale, executive director of Camelot, the company that runs the lottery. “This latest campaign is about our ambition to bring people together. It also taps into the feelings of hope and possibility we collectively experience at Christmas, showing that it’s always worth taking the chance to win big.”

An instrumental arrangement of George Michael’s “Faith” by Sleeping at Last provides the soundtrack. It feels lush and evocative here, entirely appropriate to the story but completely removed from its rockabilly roots. The initiative also includes photo booths at UK train stations that will project photos of passersby onto nearby OOH digital screens.

“At a time when the nation needs a little magic in the air, we wanted to create a larger-than-life story about the lottery and true love: two games of chance that make the perfect subject for a romantic comedy. Christmas,” says adam&eveDDB. ECD group Ben Tollett.

The agency’s sprites worked overtime to create campaigns for the season, each with a distinct flavor. As well as his push for the lottery, adam&eveDDB told a sweet story of foster care for John Lewis and celebrated farmers and suppliers at a festive venue for JL Waitrose’s brother.

Jon Petrie thought the first video would never see the light of day beyond his office. TCU was preparing to take on Oklahoma State in a clash of Top 15 teams that would do much to help shape the Big 12 title race.

One day earlier this week, Petrie, TCU’s creative video coordinator, skipped his lunch break and started creating.

It started with a fitting soundtrack of “Crazy Frog,” a techno-inspired re-working of the Beverly Hills Cop theme song that caught fire on the internet over a decade ago when paired with images. a mascot for a small ringtone company. (Yes, this story goes even further down the Internet rabbit hole.)

“What if I just took this song and combined a bunch of weird images of frogs and edited them together in a really weird way with no rhyme or reason,” Petrie said. “It’s very abstract and fluid.”

He did just that, snapping quick cuts of various internet memes interspersed with a parade of photos and videos of frogs from different levels of reality. At one point he found himself googling “psychedelic backgrounds”. He just thought it would be funny.

Following TCU’s 43-40 double overtime win, he added some footage of the TCU team celebrating in the locker room.

“We kind of encouraged him, and he kind of looked to me like, ‘Really? Do you want to post this?’ I was like, ‘Fuck you, why not? We just beat Oklahoma State. Let’s post it.’ And sure enough, it blew up,” said Jason Andrews, director of creative media for football at TCU.

Licking toads can be dangerous to your health and is generally frowned upon by the medical community, but if the supposed effects are real, it would probably be a lot like watching the end result of Petrie’s work, 54 seconds of pure joy.

“We’ve gone from making highlight videos after games to creating memes, and it’s been really fun,” Andrews said.

Fun is one of the new words that defined TCU’s schedule under Sonny Dykes. The the face of the program personifies with his embrace of Hypnotoad, the Futurama character that the basketball program first used as a free throw distraction. Now, he has become the unofficial mascot and symbol of the football team’s 9-0 start and continuation of the College Football Playoff program’s first offer.

“The great thing about Coach Dykes is that he doesn’t micromanage at all. A lot of times he has no idea what we’re doing. He’s just a great CEO and hires people and lets them do their jobs” “, said Andrews, who spent four seasons with Dykes in a similar role at SMU before following him 40 miles through Interstate 30 to TCU. “It makes my job and my team’s job super easy, because that my team is super awesome and it gives us the flexibility to be creative and do things like these memes.”

This, together with TCU’s marketing of a Game of Thrones-style “House of Duggan” logo to promote star quarterback Max Duggan helped TCU become the internet’s new favorite team. No one expected a troubled start after Oklahoma State’s victory. No one was prepared for it, not TCU fans and certainly not the internet in general.

But it raised expectations for an encore. A parade of toads? Already passed. Petrie was brainstorming ideas when someone caught him in his office taking a 0.5 photo of himself.

“What are you doing?” they asked.

Petrie explained that a .5 photo is an extremely wide angle lens, but when a photo is taken near the photographer’s forehead, it makes their face look massive for a very strange effect. Petrie, a Maine native who worked as a creative for Maine’s 16 sports before joining Andrews’ team in Fort Worth in June, traded 0.5 selfies with his friends as a joke. Before long, TCU’s entire creative team was taking them on before they came across an idea.

“What if this week’s video was just the 0.5 photos you take? asked a staff member.

“You mean just take a bunch of 0.5 photos of the players and put them together?” said Petrie.

“Yeah,” said the staff member.

Petrie thought about it for a moment before replying, “That would actually work.”

And so, gotfrogged.mov was born, featuring a deafening rendition of Disturbed’s “Down With The Sickness” as the soundtrack.

“I know players like them because they always ask, ‘What’s the video this week?’ and I have to tell them, “I don’t know yet,” Petrie said.

He didn’t get the full idea of the West Virginia video until he had a stroke of genius in the 11th hour.

“I did this in the hotel room the night before and it took me about an hour. I spent an hour looking for frogs in cowboy hats and then downloading them, but I I ran out of photos, so I had to figure out how fast I could photoshop frog heads onto cowboys,” Petrie said.

Somehow it worked.

Petrie and Andrews can’t help but laugh at the runaway popularity of a project that Andrew doesn’t spend time working on and Petrie barely spends one percent of his seven-day workweek during the season assembling. Andrews oversees all content, but they both help produce Carter Boys, an in-depth, weekly in-house documentary chronicling an already special season in Funkytown, fittingly airing on ESPN-plus.

“You get all these people commenting, ‘Hey, I’m not even a TCU fan, but I’m starting to shoot for these guys because of this. And you realize, ‘OK, you’re doing something right.’ But at the same time, it kinda pisses me off because we do all this really cool stuff. Cinematic, pretty, but that’s what grabs the attention,” Andrews said with a laugh. “But it is okay.”

Petrie was able to dip his toe into the mix of psychosis and cinema with his Texas Tech video celebration, thanks to a spicy offseason between the former Southwest Conference rivals who have renewed their hatred in the state since TCU joined the Big 12 a decade ago.

Using Dwight Yoakam’s “1,000 Miles From Nowhere” was a layup to polish TCU’s rival in rural West Texas, with a mock Raider Red taking a big bite out of the cactus. It was, predictably, a cacti-filled video to poke fun at the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech announced a NIL deal that included 100 annual, $25,000 contracts for football players, but TCU recruiting coordinator Bryan Carrington lit up a game criticizing the deal and Tech’s efforts to help players to build their brand “in a desert”. He punctuated the tweet with a cactus, but Texas Tech fans repurposed the emoji as the program’s new unofficial symbol. Even Patrick Mahomes tweeted the emoji. At halftime of Saturday’s game, the Texas Tech band formed a cactus as they performed.

So TCU’s postgame was a fitting rebuttal. So was an alternate video that Carrington also posted from the creative department.

It was a piece of savagery rarely seen in sports, pouring salt into Red Raiders injuries as TCU focused on a possible future in the Playoffs.

This week, Petrie has already found her inspiration. If TCU beats Texas as a touchdown underdog in Austin, their new video will see the light of day. It will feature a repurposed iconic Longhorns logo.

Winning is fun. But so does Petrie and Andrews’ work as the internet arm of Dykes’ rebuilt TCU program, which prides itself on being open and having a free-wheeling attitude. Why shouldn’t the creative department do the same?

“Jason would come and say, ‘How did you find that? ‘” Petrie said. “And I should be like, ‘I don’t know, it’s just kind of like jazz. You’re just improvising.

And it works.

“You gotta love it when you see people say, ‘I wasn’t a Frog fan until I saw this.’ And you realize, ‘Oh, we’re gaining fans,'” Petrie said.

The comic horror web series by Acadian filmmaker Mathieu Laprise Utukku features bullying on the playground that escalates into the supernatural.

It’s sly, silly, and satisfyingly over the top – a celebration of the urge for disproportionate revenge. It both parodies and validates the schoolboy intensity, moving from petty to poignant to joyous.

Rather than a horror-comedy, it feels like a self-glorifying revenge fantasy. It does so in just 15 aesthetically pleasing minutes, segmented into three five-minute chapters called “The Doll”, “The Exorcism”, and “The Amulet”.

The audience is introduced to our heroine, Vielda, as she sniffles and cries in a pitch-black space devoid of sound.

The scene is an intimate close-up of her face that is almost uncomfortable. It is sad, gripping and complex. The nature of her tears passing through shock, pain, memory and calm for ten long seconds. When the ringing of his phone ricochets in the darkness and breaks his reverie, we hear his voice for the first time.

As much as the scene is emblematic of the anti-bullying sketches that travel through colleges, audiences immediately bond with it — its fragility, intensity, and naivety.

It’s quite a feat to rehumanize a trope with a dialogue phrase.

The scene turns into a jarring flashback: a swarm of giggling girls, led by leader Nadine, push Vielda into a locker. The school lights go out as Vielda calls for help.

All we need to understand is that being shoved in a locker is worthy of looking for a demon to curse your bully.

The film plays with visuals in a very compelling way – the nuances of revenge, pain and power are filled in by the audience rather than presented explicitly. Tropes contribute to this. It is strategic that Nadine looks like a textbook bully, that every feature of her face is mischievous. It’s strategic how this complements victim Vielda, who is doe-eyed, clumsy, sassy, and a budding goth girl.

The stereotypes are so familiar and comforting that they allow the film to succeed without exploring the character. And then their limits are delightfully pushed as Vielda visits a shaman to acquire a demon.

“Having enemies has nothing to do with age,” she told the wary shaman.

She is offered a trapped demon in the form of a doll.

She’s a creepy comic doll – waxy, humanoid, with tousled black hair, a body made of voodoo strings and a green amulet. It comes to life in a flash of red eyes and a booming, rumbling soundtrack.

Vielda whistles commands into the doll’s ear at school, watching Nadine. She smiled seeing her wishes come true. Nadine sinks into acts of self-humiliation.

The way the movie tackles the supernatural is also something I enjoyed. The supernatural is not portrayed as dramatic or even strange. It’s a casual. The demon is a classic demon – a red-eyed rage with a passion for telekinetic chokeholds.

The devil is a part of life, just like being pushed into a locker. It makes the movie feel like a daydream – something that doesn’t need to be realistic or even cohesive. It just has to be satisfying.

Utukku is addictive and witty. It’s predictable but entertaining, over the top but relatable.
The film plays with non-linear timelines to deliver everything in 15 minutes. Rather than a film, it’s more intuitive to see it as a painting. It’s clean and compact. There is not a second wasted. It’s always lush. The characters are deliberately shallow so they can fully embody self-indulgence and its comedies. I like this brevity.

The film is a concise way to playfully reconnect with your vengeful side.

“There’s no doubt about it,” he said. “It’s going to be two long years.

For Lake, the campaign was something different. She called it all – last Saturday night’s rally, her climb in Arizona – the start of a “huge red wave”. And the thrill of excitement in the crowd, the combative rhetoric and the brutal imagery that surrounded it suggested a real war at hand.

In the ranch parking lot northwest of Phoenix where Lake addressed the crowd, amid the palo verde trees, Tony Boulos, who was selling t-shirts, showed me one of his bestsellers . It read, “Time to take Biden to the train station,” a reference to the remote location where dead bodies are disposed of on the TV show “Yellowstone.”

“Conservatives are not troublemakers,” he said, pointing to the line of people streaming in. “They just got it.”

He also sold ammunition. “It’s Arizona, man!” Boulos said.

A co-worker of hers fried a hot dog on a grill and said to me, “Our state is a hot spot right now,” while inside the microphone Lake said she felt “like I was on the road like a rock star, playing. She called Hobbs a “coward,” while describing her own campaign as a “national movement… originating right here in Arizona.” She lamented the state of immigration, homelessness and the economy under Democratic rule and, shaking her finger, promised that “we won’t let them take this election as [Biden] did. Definitely not.” She railed against “radical leftists” and the media – “those lying, propagandistic bastards trying to bring this country down.”

At one point, a man in the crowd shouted, “We’ve got your six, Kari.”

“Thank you, sir,” Lake replied. “Thank you, cowboy.”

She said, “We have God on our side”, and she asked her supporters to raise their hands if they were “ready to vote as if your life depended on it”.

It’s one of the many little tricks Apple introduced in iOS 16, the company’s latest update for iPhone.

So, if you haven’t installed it yet, go ahead to benefit from this tool and many other new tools.

Emergency Bypass can be used on as many people as you want.

This means that when your iPhone is on silent, their call will still make noise and vibrate.

The feature even allows calls if your device is set to Focus mode.

TikToker howfinity has revealed how to set up an emergency bypass – and it’s very simple.

“Here’s a really useful iPhone emergency tip,” he said.

All you have to do is open your contacts first.

Find the person you wish you could bypass silent mode.

Faucet Edit in the upper right corner.

Scroll until you see Alarm and select it.

You will see the Emergency Bypass feature listed at the top – enable it.

Although it can save you at a critical moment, some users have pointed out that this feature can also be annoying.

“I found this very useful until I couldn’t block calls during my doctor’s appointments,” one commenter pointed out.
