Delhi: Tech employee arrested for ‘impersonating Russian magazine editor and blackmailing a woman’

Delhi Police Cyber ​​Cell arrested an employee of a prominent tech company for allegedly impersonating a Russian magazine editor and harassing women on Instagram after convincing them to share photos private. The accused, Mohit Sharma (33), lives in Noida, police said.

According to police, in 2020 he approached a woman online and befriended her by posing as a Russian magazine editor. He asked her to share private photos under the guise of using them in the magazine. Law enforcement sources said he had obtained photos of the woman and her sister and threatened to post them online if they did not share more. Police said he also allegedly sent the photos to friends and family and posted them online.

A team led by ACP Raman Lamba filed a complaint and began searching for the accused. “We found his username, ‘Archudnes’, and collected details of the Instagram account and Hotmail ID used to create it. We traced the IP address and found it was linked to a top login. Airtel debit recorded in Sharma’s name A team was sent to his house but he said his WiFi had been hacked,” an officer said.

The team seized the laptop and phones and sent them for examination. KPS Malhotra, DCP (Cyber ​​Cell), said his team sent the devices for forensic analysis and recovered deleted data – thousands of photos of women. “The plaintiff’s photos were also on the device,” he said.
