Four famous singers’ favorite recipes to try

Famous singers, like most people who possess some level of wealth and live their lives in the public eye, tend to enjoy the finer things in life. However, some of our favorite musicians can be surprising, and finding out what they like to cook for themselves and their loved ones is always a fun treat. Here are some recipes singers really like to make in their spare time, and maybe they’ll come in handy when you’re feeling low on inspiration in the kitchen.

1. Beyoncé’s guacamole

This recipe was leaked online a few years ago, and it’s easy to see why. Sure, everyone loves Beyonce, but her specific take on guacamole has also proven exceptionally popular. She starts by peeling and mashing two avocados with the back of a spoon – not a fork, apparently, it’s easier that way. Then add lots of vegetables: onions, tomatoes, garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper, and mix until smooth and creamy. This is a delicious, relatively low-fat version of the dish, given the lack of oil.

2. David Bowie’s Shepherd’s Pie

This hearty dish is a bit of a surprise coming from the ultra-cool king of post-punk and glam rock. Ask anyone who knew him personally or knows music industry recipes, this one tends to top the list. It was Bowie’s favorite dish, and his wife, Iman, often helped him prepare it for the family. His version doesn’t deviate much from the traditional approach to shepherd’s pie, although it seems he preferred ground lamb over ground beef.

3. Patti LaBelle Mac and Cheese

If you haven’t heard of Patti LaBelle’s mac and cheese, you must have been living under a rock for the past few years. Her recipe has become as iconic as the singer herself. It’s a simple, no-frills recipe that packs a lot of flavor. Unlike other traditional recipes, you don’t have to make a super complicated cheese sauce – just mix the ingredients together. Plus, you use all kinds of cheese, and lots of it: five cups. It’s decadent and cozy and totally worth it.

4. Barbra Streisand’s ice cream

Streisand knew how to hack instant coffee long before it became a social media trend during the height of the pandemic. She uses instant coffee, milk, marshmallows and salt, and brings it to a slow boil for a few minutes. She folds it into whipped cream, then freezes it for a few hours – no need for an ice cream maker. There are other fresh ingredients she adds for a bit more flavor or texture, such as a dark chocolate and nut sauce. Or you can keep it simple and eat the coffee flavored concoction straight from the fridge. It’s comforting and exactly what a doctor would prescribe on a hot summer day.

We admire celebrities for many things, but solid recipes aren’t usually one of them. Nonetheless, these recipes became popular for a reason, and people have every right to applaud them — no pun intended — for their take on the classics. Try these recipes and enjoy a tasty treat with your friends and family.
