Weather reading sweater | News, Sports, Jobs
As the weather cools, the Minot Public Library offers the community a comfortable reading challenge. The Sweater Weather Reading Challenge asks you to read outside the box, giving you a different category to read each month. Readers only need to read one book per month to participate in great prizes.
Adult Services Librarian Zhaina Moya Says âWe want our customers to try out new books and see if they can find some good reading that they might not have read otherwise. “
The Sweater Weather Reading Challenge is open to all ages. Age groups include: children “read me” readers, children “read to myself” readers, adolescent readers and adult readers. There will be prizes in each age category given out once a month between October 2021 and March 2022. Monthly prizes include $ 25 gift cards for various local businesses including: Main Street Books, Nature’s Nook, Roosevelt Zoo , Daily Buzz, The Putt District, Prairie Pains du Ciel, and more. The grand prizes will be drawn at the end of the reading challenge in March. The four grand prize winners will be drawn at random from readers who complete at least 3 months within the 6 month period. The grand prizes are $ 100 gift cards to Target.
The categories of monthly reading challenges include: October – as broadcast on TV; November – Science fiction and fantasy; December – Music; January – Fairy tales, folk tales and mythology; February – History; and March – Staff selection.
“I am happy to be able to offer this opportunity to book lovers in our region”, Library director Janet Anderson said. âI’m especially excited to showcase the Library’s collection of great books, whether it’s our print books, our audiobooks, or the many downloadable titles available. “
Anderson said staff have compiled a list of recommendations for each category monthly, but staff are able to provide more recommendations as well.
The Sweater Weather Reading Challenge is available through the Minot Public Library’s Beanstack app, available for free download on mobile devices. Customers can download the app or visit the website https://minotnd.beanstack.org/reader365 to register for the challenge. Book recommendations for each month for each age group are listed on the Beanstack app, and families can follow multiple household members at the same time. The Minot Public Library is able to offer this reading challenge thanks to funds donated by the Friends of the Minot Public Library. The mission of the Friends of the Minot Public Library is to “To maintain an association of people interested in the library, to draw the public’s attention to the library, to stimulate the use of library resources, to encourage donations, endowments and bequests to the library and to support the freedom to read” . The Friends of the Library not only enabled the library to subscribe to the Beanstack program, but also donated funds for all the prizes.
Everyone is invited to join the Friends of Minot Public Library; memberships start from $ 10 and anyone who joins before the end of 2021 will be a member until December 2022. The Friends of the Library sponsor various activities to support MPL including the sale of used books, fundraising for library programs, volunteering for library activities, and purchasing items needed for the library. For more information on joining the Friends of the Library, please call (701) 852-1045, visit our website www.minotlibrary.org, pick up a brochure at the library or attend their annual meeting on Friday 12 November at noon.
