YouTube Premium “download videos or music” function not working
New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….
The original story (published July 26, 2022) follows:
Since Google acquired YouTube many years ago, the world’s most popular video platform is constantly receiving new features and changes.
Some of YouTube’s biggest changes have to do with its monetization system. For example, YouTube spun off additional services such as YouTube TV and YouTube Music.
In addition, there is also “YouTube Premium” (formerly “YouTube Red”) as a monthly subscription. This allows paid users of the platform to enjoy ad-free videos and music (and more benefits).
One of the best features of YouTube Premium is the ability to download videos for offline consumption. Premium subscribers can also do the same with music using the YouTube Music app.
However, lately, the ability to download videos or music was not working properly for many YouTube Premium users.
YouTube Premium “download videos” unavailable for some
Some YouTube Premium users cannot currently download videos to their devices for offline viewing.
According to reports, the issue can cause the “Download” button to disappear or the download to get stuck permanently from the start.
Youtube premium, video download never starts
we have a premium youtube account and trying to upload a video. the layer shows the download button, i can actually choose the quality i want…
the video will show in the download section but the system keeps saying “Warten auf Download” – “Waiting to download”.
No download button to download videos
I just got YouTube Premium so I could download videos, but the download button doesn’t appear.
YouTube Premium “Music Download” also not working for some
The issue is also said to affect downloading songs through the YouTube Music app. Like the YouTube app and website, YouTube Music lets you cache songs for offline listening.
In some cases, the YouTube Music app seems to start downloading the songs, but they never get saved to the device’s internal storage.
Meanwhile, in other cases, YouTube does not detect that the user has a “Premium” subscription, so the download never starts.
Unable to download music to SD card even with all settings enabled
I have YouTube Music Premium. I cannot download music to my SD card. When I select a song and press Download, it does not download to the SD card. YouTube Music shows that I downloaded the song, but it never arrives on the SD card.
Unable to download songs from YouTube premium
Hello, can someone help me? 🙂
1.How can I sign out of Google account if I need to? I can’t see it.
2.I canceled my Premium subscription on YouTube, but the next day I started it again.
But now I can’t download new song and I can’t play old downloaded songs!
There is still no official acknowledgment of the issue from the YouTube team or a workaround to help resolve or mitigate it. But we will update this story as events unfold.
Update 1 (3 November 2022)
12:18 p.m. (IST): One of our readers seems to have solved the problem on Android where the “download videos or music” feature of YouTube Premium does not work using the following steps:
1) Using another device (computer), recreate the downloaded playlist. Although the files might be missing on your phone/tablet, the names are still there which makes things easier. I called my new playlist i.e. – Downloaded. Check if Youtube (mobile app), on your device, sees the songs and they are playable.
** The next step will delete all previously downloaded YouTube music/videos. Since they’re not available, that shouldn’t be a problem and you’ve done a “backup” as per step 1. **
2) On the device on which you cannot download. Go to Settings, Applications, then YouTube Music. Go to Storage. Choose “Clear cache”, then “Clear data”.
It’s basically the Andriod equivalent of uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
3) Open YouTube music. Locate the playlist you created in step 1 (i.e. – downloaded).
4) Above the Playlist Play button Tap the 3 dots and choose Download. YouTube Music will now download all music from this playlist.
5) Enjoy offline music. If you want to test that everything downloaded successfully, put your device in airplane mode and try playing something.
It worked for me.
